My stay at McMenamins Old St. Francis School was such a unique experience! The rooms are spacious and filled with quirky decor, each named after a nun from the school's history. I loved the mixing of old-school charm with modern amenities. However, the wood-burning fireplaces, while attractive, were a bit much for my allergies, which was a downside to the overall atmosphere. Still, I appreciate the interesting vibe and central location near downtown Bend.

Rooms

My room was roomy and well decorated with fun, nostalgic details, but the lack of closets was a small drawback.

5.8/10

I had a charming and unique stay at McMenamins Old St. Francis School. The hotel had good, eclectic decor and a cozy atmosphere, though I encountered some frustrating issues with smoke and AC. However, the location was fantastic for exploring Bend, and the dining options were excellent.

Rooms
8.0
The hotel rooms are cozy and thoughtfully decorated, capturing the quirky McMenamins style. While they can be a bit small by some standards, they are very comfortable. I particularly enjoyed my room's character, though I did struggle with smoke from the nearby fire pits.
Service
7.0
The service was generally attentive, but I did find some areas for improvement, particularly regarding communication about the amenities (like coffee). It seems they didn't quite grasp the importance of consistent service at various times.
Location
10.0
The location is absolutely perfect! Just steps away from downtown Bend, I had easy access to restaurants, shops, and scenic parks. It felt great to explore the area on foot, especially with how safe and vibrant the neighborhood was.
Dining
10.0
Dining at the pub was a highlight! I indulged in delicious Cajun tots and soft pretzels with a rich cheese dip. The food was consistently good, and the atmosphere was lively and enjoyable.
Facilities
8.0
The facilities were quite fun, especially the hidden ‘Broom Closet’ bar and the warm soaking pool with beautiful murals. However, navigating the hotel could be a challenge due to its layout. Otherwise, the unique spaces, including the movie theater, added charm.

7.4/10

My stay at Mcmenamins Old St. Francis School had its highs and lows. The location was fantastic and the ambiance quirky and charming, but the room left much to be desired in terms of amenities and comfort. Dining was a mixed bag; some dishes were excellent, while others fell flat. Overall, I appreciated the uniqueness of the place, but I left feeling a bit underwhelmed by the overall experience.

Rooms
6.0
I stayed in the Ed House, and the rooms were quite sparse with bare minimum amenities. There were no fridges or coffee makers, which I've come to expect from most hotels. The decor was cute, but the lighting was poor, and the room overall felt cramped.
Service
6.0
The service was generally good, but they really need to understand that coffee is a big deal, especially for early risers. The coffee started at 7 am, which was a bit late for me. Communication about services offered also seemed lacking.
Location
8.0
The location is a definite plus, right near downtown Bend, making it easy to explore the area. It has its own fun vibe, and it’s worth the drive to get there. However, noise from outdoor activities can be disruptive at night.
Dining
6.0
I enjoyed the food, especially the mac and cheese and potato soup, which were fantastic. However, my pork chop was tough, which was disappointing. The pub had a cozy atmosphere, but I felt my experience was hit or miss on the menu.
Facilities
6.0
The facilities have a charming, hip feel with several cozy spaces to relax, but there were no notable extras. I appreciated the unique decor and courtyard areas, but I missed having more modern amenities in the room.

I had a lovely stay at McMenamins Old St. Francis School in Bend, filled with charm and historical character. The outdoor patios and numerous fire pits were perfect for relaxing, though the smoke from the fires did become a concern for me at times. Overall, the friendly staff and cozy rooms made for an enjoyable experience, but I wish there had been more options for a smoke-free atmosphere at night. 🌲🔥

Rooms

The rooms were cozy and full of character, and I appreciated the unique decor. However, my first room had a lot of smoke seeping in, which was uncomfortable. After switching to a new room, I found it relatively better but still faced issues with temperature control.
Service
8.0
The service was friendly and attentive, particularly in the bar area where staff were proactive in replenishing drinks. However, communication about the room features and options could have been clearer.
Location
9.0
The location was fantastic, just steps away from downtown Bend, making it easy to explore the city. Being centrally located added to the convenience of my stay.
Dining

Dining options were plentiful with great food available at the pub and the outdoor dining areas. I particularly enjoyed the atmosphere in O'Kanes, though my meals required walking outside to access.
Facilities
8.0
The facilities were very charming, with beautiful decor and several cozy areas to enjoy. While the soaking pool was smaller than expected, it still added to the unique experience. I loved the fire pits despite the smoke issue.
